Peregrine Panel Seeking Persistent Partners

A shorter post here.  In the effort to be transparent with regard to the new business start up The Pergrine Panel, a social media service for market research and ideation, want to let it be known that TPP is seeking various partners. Here’s the wish list:

  1. A partner for Idea Management – we need a system to track ideas and data with regard to our projects.
  2. Quantitative analysis – a likely follow up to our projects will be more rigorous quantitative surveys, so we’re looking for an established vendor in this market who also wants to work “lightning fast”.
  3. Traditional Qualitative.  TPP services are not meant to replace traditional qualitative in the research process, but to augment it.  TPP projects will sometimes lead to more formal qualitative studies.  Here we are looking for multiple partners and specialists in various market categories.
Interested parties should get in touch with Gregg Fraley at gregg@greggfraley.com.  This start up is being done on a shoe string, so partners will be all about creative arrangements.  They should also follow greggfraley2 on Twitter.

For ‘The Peregrine Panel’ (TPP) social media service for market research and ideation a Project Definition Document(PDD) would be useful to enable potential partners to act and join forces within clearly defined parameters and with unambiguous purpose.

The three givens (Ideation Management, Qualiative and Quantiative reseach) provides that required simple outline with which I can, individually, agree.

Questions and answers will assist partners to contemplate potentail and commit_ e.g. some questions:
      a) will partners have clear specific tasks?
      b) may TPP sublet qualitative and quantative research tasks to others?
      c) what is the resource and investment requirement?
      d) will partners be a mixture of individuals, groups and organisations?
      e) will all partners carry task of bringing clients and/or products and/or ideas forward from the world of social media?
      e) is there a provisional timeframe to allow potential partners to plan?

There are a number of providers of similar services. Could TPP work alongside such providers, to supply an improved service and support role or is Peregrine aimed at providing something completely different?

I have assumed that Peregrine will be a web based service but, to deliver the solutions, it appears that a TPP organisational structure may involve offshoots, whereby bespoke work may need to be converted to projects, managed and requiring meetings (albeit virtual meetings). The scope and extent of the work may vary and partners will need to be flexible in their approach.

An alterative may be to develop a number of levels of partnering involvement so that simple opinions and research can be separated into tasks to be undertaken by those who are better skilled, having the necessary expertise to enable more qualified comments and reports.

Social Media covers a massive range and it may pay to be specific in terms of TPP’s propsed intial capacity to undertake research and ideation management, all based upon who the partners are and how much committed involvement they offer.

The most basic of questions, which will swing partnering and participation, is “what is in it for the partners”? This will be offset against the other intrinsic question “Where are the partners now and what’s going on in their organisational existence that can be adjusted to enable TPP membership”?

Individually, I would wish to form a local group, to sign up and act as a partner, so that we can cover each other, respond quickly and efficiently and deliver the TPP support and the service.

I believe that Peregrine is a great idea which, as soon as more detail is applied, will be taken up by relevant others, including those with aspirations and those who can spot a good opportunity when they see one.

I hope to see progress and to receive necessary assurances and background detail.

      Mark,

The short answer to your very good post here is…it depends. How the partnerships are structured is pretty flexible, it could happen a number of ways. What partners will do depends on what type of partner they are. Types would include: software and systems support, co-researchers, and possibly sales or marketing agents. What’s in it for them is, simplistically, business, or, equity shares, or both.

I listed the three partner “needs” in the post because I see them as essential to delivering a service that will be complete enough to be of interest. This based on experience, but we’ll adjust as we learn more from buyers. For example, it could be a customer has their own quant house to use, or has internal capacity.

I see TPP as “different” in a few key ways: speed of response, diversity of panel, training of panel, and that we will be doing ideation in addition to research.

I’m open to working with other research partners, in fact, that’s highly likely. As the market shifts away from traditional qualitative, or rebalances to use more current technology, “moderators” will be looking to branch out, and, we’ll need people like that to help us work with the panel and analyze results. This might be of interest to you personally, sort of an SM Moderator role, and those people would bill TPP for professional fees, so in that sense would be partners.

Number one, Idea Management is the most important because we need a system to track panelist profiles, demographics, and responses to various research questions. I am already in discussions with a prominent vendor in that arena.

You are quite right that the business services of TPP need to be better defined, and, that will occur. Right now I’m setting up some foundational pieces that will in part enable or restrict what we Can offer, so, not putting the proverbial cart before the horse. In general, what’s we’d be offering is a service for fast feedback on marketing ideas, concepts, new products, etc. It would be done via either a private Twitter, or another secure system. Results from panelists (and it might be a sub-panel) would be quickly aggregated and insights or ideas provided to buyers/clients. Likely buyers are VP level research people or brand managers of Fortune 5000 companies.

Keep those cards and letters coming!

Re: Peregrine and getting things right
      Just pondering.
Understand completely what you are doing and have said against Blog comment and elsewhere.
Everything is fine and dandy but I’ve wondered if, when producing a business plan, then a CPS or CPS+ approach could be adopted and applied.
For small businesses, banks produce a stream of forms to be completed to make sure that each business box is ticked, agreed/approved.

But over-and-above that, could we look at potential business as a problem to be resolved.

If yes, then we need to stage what we do (i.e. in a theoretic business venture).

So, as student(me)to teacher(you)could we not frame Peregrine under the following challenge triage headings:

      PROBLEM EXPLORATION:
      Identify the challenge
      Facts etc
      Problem framing etc

      BRAINSTORING
      Idea generation etc

      GETTING INTO ACTION
      Solution Development
      Action Planning

I assume that you will, automatically, have applied this regime, given that we can pick and chose depending on what we are doing and only if a problem exists in need of attention. (Note: use of the Royal “we”

Thing is, there are other social media partnerships and companies out there and Peregrine has got to offer more than what is already available..hasn’t it? Unless, that is, the market is open and clients are lining up, waiting for Peregrine (and good will down the line). Is Peregrine also in it for the ‘Common Good’? If so, the panelists will need to sign up to a bit of altruism amongst all else.

      Just thinking
      All the best
      Mark
